Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how eela ("eela", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects personal data when you use our app and services (the "Service"). We handle personal data in line with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Who we are and how to reach us

eela helps you turn restaurant and activity content you share with us into plans you can act on. For any question about your data, contact our Data Protection Officer at info@eela.sg.

Information we collect

Location: if you turn on location in Ask eela, the app sends your position, rounded to about 100 metres, with each message you send while it is on, so eela can find places near you. We use it to answer that message only and do not store it; the AI provider receives only the name of the nearest neighbourhood. Explore can show distances to places using your location, but works these out on your device and does not send your location to us. We never collect your location in the background.

  • Account information: your name, email address, profile photo and login details when you create an account with Google or with an email and password.
  • Content you share with us: reels, posts or links you send us (for example by messaging our Instagram account), together with their caption, media link, media identifier and the identifier of the account that sent them.
  • Instagram connection data: if you connect Instagram, an account identifier that lets us link the content you share to your eela account. We only receive messages you send to us, and we may reply to you by direct message.
  • Your conversations and preferences: messages you send to Ask eela, the plans and outings you build, saved places, personal notes, tags, ratings and albums, and the preferences we infer from these to personalise suggestions.
  • Reward claims: if you submit a claim, the bill photo, bill amount and PayNow number you provide.
  • Usage information: which screens you open and what you tap in the app, app errors, and technical details such as your device and browser type, linked to your user ID; and when you tap a booking link or tell us an outcome (for example that you visited a place). We do not record the text of your messages or notes in this usage information.
  • Session recordings: a replay of how you move through the app (the screens you open, where you tap and scroll), linked to your user ID. The app's own words, such as buttons and place names, stay visible. Everything you type, your messages, notes, album and plan names, your name and profile photo, and bill photos are hidden. We do not record your browser console or the contents of what the app sends and receives.
  • Content posted by other people: for reels you share, we process the public creator handle, caption and transcript so we can work out which place it is about.

How we use your information

  • To identify the places and activities in content you share and organise them into your collections.
  • To answer your requests, suggest places and help you plan outings. Saving a plan does not book or reserve anything.
  • To open partner booking pages when you choose to, and to record that you did.
  • To review and pay reward claims.
  • To send you email reminders about places you have saved. You can turn these off in the app's Notifications settings.
  • To operate, secure, maintain and improve the Service, and to communicate with you about your account.

Shared plan links

If you share an outing, anyone with its link can view its stops and venue details without an account. You can stop sharing at any time and the link will stop working.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the following, who may only use it to provide services to us:

  • Hosting and database providers: store your account and data.
  • AI providers: Anthropic answers your messages to Ask eela; if it is unavailable, the message goes through a routing service (OpenRouter) to Google instead. They receive your message, the earlier messages in that chat and what is needed to answer it, which can include the names of places you have saved and your notes on them, the name of the album you asked from, and the neighbourhood nearest your location if you have turned location on. They process it only to produce the answer.
  • A screening provider (TypeSafe): checks that each message you send to Ask eela is about going out before it is answered. It receives your message and the start of eela's previous reply, never your account details.
  • A security provider (Cloudflare Turnstile): checks that email sign-ins and sign-ups come from a person, not an automated program. It sees technical details of your browser and device while you use the sign-in form, never your email address or password.
  • Quality-monitoring providers: see AI conversations with email addresses and phone numbers removed, together with your user ID.
  • Product analytics providers: see which screens you open, what you tap, app errors, technical details such as your device and browser type, and the session recordings described above, together with your user ID.
  • Google: sign-in, Maps and Places, and booking links.
  • Web-retrieval providers: fetch public reel and venue content from links you share.
  • Email delivery providers: send our emails.
  • Booking or deal partners: only what is needed when you choose to act on an offer.
  • Legal authorities, where the law requires it.

Data from Instagram and Meta

eela uses Meta's Instagram Platform to receive content you choose to send to our Instagram account. Our use of information received from Meta follows Meta's Platform Terms and Developer Policies. We only access messages sent to our account and the identifier needed to link that content to your eela account. We do not access your private messages with other people, your followers, or content you have not shared with us.

You can revoke eela's access in Instagram under Settings, then Apps and Websites. To disconnect Instagram or have Instagram-related data deleted, email info@eela.sg and we will action your request.

Storage and overseas transfers

Our providers may store or process data outside Singapore. Where we send personal data overseas, we take steps to ensure it receives protection comparable to that required by the PDPA.

Cookies and browser storage

We use browser storage to keep you signed in, to remember booking handoffs, and to recognise your device for product analytics. We do not use advertising cookies.

Data retention

  • Content sent by Instagram users who have not linked an eela account is deleted after 30 days.
  • Session recordings are deleted after 30 days.
  • Account data is kept while your account is active.
  • Reward claim records are kept for as long as needed for accounting and to resolve disputes.
  • When you ask us to delete your account we delete your data, except anything the law requires us to keep.

Your choices and rights

  • You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, or withdraw your consent, by emailing info@eela.sg.
  • You can turn off email reminders in the app and stop sharing a plan at any time.
  • You can revoke eela's access to your Instagram account through your Instagram settings.

Deleting your data

To delete all data linked to your Instagram or eela account, email info@eela.sg from your account email. We will confirm once it is done.

Security and breaches

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If a breach is likely to cause you significant harm, we will notify you and the Personal Data Protection Commission as the law requires.

Children

eela is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the date above.
